Books that have helped me to grow the most
I have always loved reading and I like a good novel but I also enjoy reading books that are a bit science oriented, especially when it comes to athletic endeavors.
I should point out that modern eating disorder professionals now understand that eating disorders are not addictions but mental health disorders.
For me, I have seen how exercise has become an addictive behavior and that is closely linked to my particular eating disorder. I found the books on addiction to be interesting and helpful in my own recovery and understanding of disorder.
Here are a few that I have read in the last couple of years that I really like:
- In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts-If you are interested in the science of addiction and how we have it all wrong when it comes to recovery
- Addiction and Grace-If you are interested in the science and spiritual side of addiction
- Daring Greatly-If you just want to live a fuller and more free life
- The Gifts of Imperfection-If you are a perfectionist and need to learn how to move away from it
- The Passion Paradox-Interesting read on becoming excellent and the possible price
- Sick Enough-If you need to learn about Eating Disorder effects on the body
- Broken Image-An excellent novel about three people admitted to an Intensive Inpatient Eating Disorder recovery clinic.
